Frequently asked questions

We've gathered answers to the questions that come up most often — about your account, exercises, pronunciation scoring and technical matters. Can't find yours? Get in touch.

🚀Getting started

What is Accentlo?+

Accentlo is a platform for learning the English accent. You practise individual sounds, stress, rhythm and intonation — recording your voice and getting automatic feedback on what sounds good and what's worth improving.

You learn not only so that others understand you, but also so that you can understand fast, natural native-speaker speech yourself.

How do I get started?+

Head to the platform and start with the first exercises — they're free. There's nothing to install; all you need is a browser and a microphone (a built-in laptop or phone mic is fine).

We recommend starting with a single sound and practising it until you've got it before moving on — that's the most effective approach.

Who is Accentlo for?+

For anyone who wants to speak English more clearly and confidently — whatever their level. From people who know the grammar but "freeze up" when speaking, to advanced learners who want to polish their accent and sound more natural.

💳Account & subscription

Can I use it for free?+

Yes. Some exercises are available free of charge so you can try the platform with no commitment. Full access to all modules — sounds, native phrases, short stories and AI conversations — requires a subscription.

How much does a subscription cost?+

You'll find current prices and plan details on our pricing page and on the platform at the point of purchase. You choose the plan that suits your needs, and payment is handled by a secure external provider.

How do I cancel my subscription?+

You manage your subscription and payments from your account or by contacting Customer Support at support@accentlo.com. You can cancel at any time in line with the terms set out on the site.

Can I withdraw from the contract?+

As a consumer you have the right to withdraw from a distance contract within 14 days. You'll find the details — including exceptions for digital services — in our Terms. To withdraw, simply email support@accentlo.com.

I have a payment problem+

Payment and invoicing matters are handled by Customer Support. Email support@accentlo.com describing the problem — we'll help as quickly as we can.

🎤Exercises & microphone

Do I need a microphone to practise?+

Yes, pronunciation exercises require a working microphone and the browser's permission to access it. You don't need professional gear — a microphone built into your laptop, tablet or phone is enough.

My browser won't let me record+

The first time you record, your browser asks for microphone permission — you need to accept it. If you declined it earlier:

  • click the padlock icon next to the page address and enable microphone access,
  • refresh the page,
  • check that the microphone isn't in use by another program (e.g. a messaging app).

If that doesn't help, email support@accentlo.com.

How many exercises should I do each day?+

Consistency beats length. Even 10–15 minutes a day, focused on a single sound, does more than rare, long sessions. Pronunciation is a motor habit — it sticks through repetition over time.

Where's the best place to start?+

With the sound that gives you the most trouble — common trouble spots include /θ/ (think), /æ/ (cat), /ɜː/ (bird) or the /ɪ/–/iː/ pair (ship–sheep). Master one before you move on to the next.

📊How pronunciation scoring works

How does Accentlo score my pronunciation?+

When you record an exercise, the system converts your speech to text and compares it with a reference, then generates feedback — what sounded good and what to work on. You get tips tailored to the specific exercise.

Is the score 100% accurate?+

The score is a guide and a learning aid. It's the result of automatic analysis and may contain inaccuracies — especially with subtle features like the glottal stop, stress or sentence melody, which speech-recognition technology doesn't always capture.

Treat it as a signpost, not an oracle. The subtlest things are best judged by listening to the reference recording alongside your own.

I got a low score even though I pronounce it well — why?+

It happens, because the system relies on what it "heard" as text. Sometimes background noise, a recording that's too quiet, or a poor microphone affect the result. Try recording in a quieter place, speak clearly and a little louder, and compare your recording with the reference.

Are my recordings stored anywhere?+

Recordings are used to generate your pronunciation score. We describe the details of how they're processed in our Privacy Policy — take a look there if you want to know exactly how we handle voice data.
